My Autobiography

This is not comprehensive, it is just a little bit about myself over the past few years. Unlike many others currently in the MET program, I have no actual experience teaching. That is to say, while I've taught in many practicums at school, I have not been hired by a school board as a teacher. I recently graduated from my Concurrent Education program at WLU and Nipissing (less than three months ago), and saw this program advertised in Professionally Speaking, the magazine put out by the Ontario College of Teacher's. I was quite excited as I've always been interested in technology, and it seemed to be a good way of combining my interests.

From my experience with associate teachers I have learned that many teachers are uncomfortable with technology, and therefore do not use it in their classrooms, or at all, and shy away from incorporating it into their lessons. I believe that incorporating technology is very important, as is teaching our students about technology. Our students are aware of certain purposes of technology (such as cell phones for sending text messages, or using computers for instant messaging or Myspace), but they also need to learn how to use it to suit other purposes, such as learning and research. Technology has become a part of our everyday lives, and it is important for teachers to show their students how to use it to their advantage, and how to use it properly. For more information, you can read my autobiographical sketch, written for ETEC 512.
